Sanctioned CEC’s: NFPT 0.4 Petition can be submitted to other certifying authorities for independently requested CEC recognition.Description:
This four hour workshop teaches the participant on the ground roots basics of sitting and standing which in the gym we refer to as the “Squat”. The Squat is considered by many including myself the most important exercise that a human can do if performed in proper form. Not only will the Squat work a clients leg muscles but it will also target almost every single muscle in the body making it one of the most complete exercises for a solid foundation. Many clients will veer away from a Squat because they imagine the big powerful olympic lifter grunting and turning all sorts of colors under a bar with many discs on each side. Fact is, a Squat is nothing more and nothing less than sitting and standing. What we must do as Fitness Professionals is identify correct form and function to then assess at what level of intensity to begin the coaching process of a new client. This workshop will guide all participants on the proper setting, spotting, and ROM of a basic squat and seven different ways by which to increase or decrease the intensity.
Objectives:
All students will be able to:
Name the anatomy of the Squat
Identify common contraindications of the Squat
Describe the proper form in which to perform a Squat
Coach a client on how to perform the Squat
Efficiently spot the Squat
Outline:
This is a four hour active participation with very little theoretical components. Class begins and ends on the gym floor where all participants individually practice performing and spotting the Squat in seven different positions and surfaces under expert supervision offered by one of our NFPT Master Trainers and Instructors.
